Newfoundland dog’s are very affectionate, and they love to please their owners. This trait is particularly observable when it comes to training and playing. These dogs can feel constrained in small apartments, and this can make them inactive.
If you have a sufficiently spacious yard, your dog will be eternally grateful to you for lifetime. Newfoundland dogs like exercise, which should be moderately rigorous. A young or growing puppy must not be over exercised because of potential orthopedic problems.
Newfoundland Dogs - Grooming
Newfoundland dogs shed twice a year, in spring and in fall. Their wavy coat requires intensive grooming during these periods. Use hard and bristle brush to remove dead hair, and do not bathe your dog too often, because this can lead to the destruction of natural oils and ensuing skin problems. Newfoundland dogs are prone to drooling, and it is recommended to wipe their muzzles with a dry and soft cloth.
If you do not feel ready to follow the aforementioned care requirements by reason of busy schedule or lack of experience, do not buy puppies of this breed. Many dogs end up in shelters for the simple reason that they grow unexpectedly large for uninformed buyers. Therefore, it is absolutely imperative that you be 100 per cent sure you really want this dog.
Newfoundland Dogs - Health Problems
Newfoundland dogs are susceptible to hip dysplasia. Therefore, they should be X-rayed regularly and from early age. Lack of exercise can result in sedentary life, which in turn can lead to obesity.
