Newfoundland Dogs - Description
Newfoundland dogs possess a very noble and statuesque appearance, which combined with the large size, dense coat and tight muscle creates an impression of a very hardy, enduring and powerful creature. These dogs have squared muzzles, broad heads and deep and sturdy chests, which provide substantial driving power during swimming or cart-pulling.
The ears are pendant, small and triangular, and the eyes are also small and dark brown. The nose is black, although bronze-coated species can have brown noses. The feet feature distinctive webbings, which make the dog an immaculate swimmer. The tail is held low. The double-coat is flat, straight or slightly wavy and water-resistant. The oily undercoat secretes a water-repellent substance, which keeps the coat almost completely dry and warm even after prolonged swims.
Newfoundland dogs are usually black, and small white markings sometimes occur on feet, chest and the tip of the tail. Bronze, brown, gray and some broken colors are also acceptable. Sturdy body built and remarkably tough muscular structure allows the Newfoundland dog to withstand long tremendous physical strains and tough, even hazardous outer conditions.

Newfoundland Dogs - Disposition
Newfoundland dogs are very intelligent, brave and obedient. They love their owners and homes to such an extent, that more often that not, they cannot get over separation with their loved masters and homes. Newfoundlands are great with guests, children and other animals in the house, and they are very protective around their homes and families. Newfie’s rarely bark, and they stand solid strong in the way of suspicious people. Male Newfoundland dogs can show aggression toward other males.
The dog's forbearing and devoted temperament has captured the hearts of many dog fanciers. The sharp contrast between its somewhat intimidating large size and extraordinarily gentle character has made Newfoundland dogs one of the most beloved breed of dogs in the world. For centuries, Newfoundland dogs have been rescuing drowning men and women, digging people out of avalanche snows, and delivering food to freezing humans through blizzards and boundless snow deserts.
